Meet The Team

Maddie and Lee have been working in the community for almost 20 years between them. They both care passionately about looking after others and doing so through the means of art.

  • Maddie Smith

    Maddie is a trainee art psychotherapist with 8 years’ experience working in the community as a therapeutic artist.

    She is an artist and poet and has professional training in shamanic art therapy. Maddie has trained trained in storytelling, shame, journal therapy, and LGBT rights as well as studying sexism and trauma to a masters standard.

    Along side Stars and Stitches, Maddie runs the Bolton- based organisation Stand Up Sisters, a women’s empowerment and arts organisation led by and for women with lived experience of mental health issues, substance misuse and sexual/domestic violence.

  • Lee Hughes

    Lee has worked as a support worker supporting young men with psychosis for the past 12 years. He has delivered creative craft workshops as well as stand-up comedy and drama workshops for adults with lived experience of mental illness and learning disabilities.

    Over the years Lee has supported people in gaining further qualifications and moving into employment. He is currently studying to become a fully qualified counsellor, along side his current qualifications in Joinery, which he is able to apply to his art practice.
